Alligator Spotted Wandering on Viking Drive in Bossier

Bossier City drivers were in for the surprise of their life last night, in the form of a gigantic alligator, near Nicky’s, on Viking Drive.

It sounds like the beginning of a corny joke. Why did the alligator cross the road? We don’t have the punchline yet, but I’m guessing it has something to do with that delicious queso found at all Nicky’s Mexican restaurant locations.

Since I can remember, I always have the same response when I meet out-of-towners who think since I live in Louisiana, I live in a swamp surrounded by gators. I always tell them the cut-off line for Cajun accents, swamps, and gators is about four hours south of me. I’ve never seen an alligator in person here in Shreveport. Well, that is as long as you don’t count the gators at Bass Pro Shops at the Louisiana Boardwalk.

Then again, I’ve lived quite a sheltered life. I’ve been out on the lake maybe 10 times in my entire life, and I’ve only gone hunting once. That was hog hunting, so I’m not even sure if that counts. My point is that maybe we are surrounded by gators, after all, and I’m just now becoming aware of that.

Apparently, our gators are so overpopulated that at least one has hit the road searching for new opportunities. At least that’s the idea I like to think about regarding the alligator found in Bossier City last night. I think this alligator had enough of the community he was living in and decided to set off on a journey of discovery. Think of him as the Christopher Columbus of our alligator friends in Bossier Parish.

I’m still looking for details on what happened next for the ferocious explorer, for now, enjoy this short video shared on Facebook last night near Nicky’s on Airline Drive.
