The Shreveport Mudbugs have advanced to the NAHL South division finals, here’s what happens next!
First and foremost, what an exciting Monday night in Shreveport. I wrote about it earlier today, and it still holds true. I’m not sure I can recall a more important game in Mudbugs history that happened on a Monday night. Walking into George’s Pond on a Monday felt weird, but once the puck dropped, all felt right in the world.
The crowd wasn’t necessarily a sell-out, which is no surprise due to the game falling on a school night. However, it was close to a sell-out and I have no doubt the atmosphere created by the fans had something to do with how the team performed. The Mudbugs showed up to win from the get-go, with their entire season hanging in the balance. The Mudbugs out-shot El Paso 15-4 in the first period alone. Honestly, the final score could have (and probably should have) been much worse.
When the dust settled, the Mudbugs won with a shutout, winning 2-0. The win was big, and now, all eyes are turned to the Lone Star State. More specifically, the number one seed in the South, the Lone Star Brahmas.
The South division finals will again be a best-of-five series that kicks off this weekend. Lone Star will host the Mudbugs on Friday and Saturday night. No matter the outcome of those games, the Mudbugs will be back in Shreveport to play game three on Friday, May 10th. If necessary, the Mudbugs will also host Lone Star on Saturday, May 11th.
If things go well for the Mudbugs in the series, they’ll head back to Blaine, Minnesota, to participate in the NAHL’s final four to crown the 2023-2024 season.
