Shootings and Stabbings: When Will it End for Shreveport?

This weekend should have been an amazing one for many in Shreveport. However, it’s hard to stay positive following the reports of shootings and stabbings.

Last night, Sunday, May 6th, Tequila Fest took over downtown Shreveport. The event had all of the makings to be one of the most unforgettable in Shreveport history. The highlight of the night and the weekend had to be the reunion of two of Louisiana’s greatest and most beloved icons: Lil Boosie and Lil Webbie.

The crowds flooded into Festival Plaza and downtown Shreveport to enjoy the festival, but the event and the night quickly became unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.

Firstly, a video of Lil Boosie went viral online after he stopped his set and left the event after a few songs. I’ve heard multiple stories surrounding why Lil Boosie abruptly ended his set. Some say the crowd was unruly; others say the event staff turned off Boosie’s mic and song to calm the crowd. The video circulating on TikTok shows exactly that, although it is tough to tell exactly what is being said and by whom. You do see an angry Boosie attempt to finish his verse, before angrily saying his mic got cut off, and within seconds, he was off the stage.

That news was disheartening but nothing like what would come to light in the following hours.

KTBS and Love Shreveport-Bossier are reporting much worse news out of downtown Shreveport following the event. KTBS reports that one person was shot downtown last evening. They report that he was shot in the leg at Crockett and Spring, and was taken to a local hospital. You can find their article HERE. Love Shreveport-Bossier has also reported grim news, stating that two women were found stabbed on top of the Shreveport Aquarium. We’re waiting to hear an update on the condition of the women, but the headline alone is beyond shocking and eye-opening. Love Shreveport-Bossier reports they were found on the rooftop of the aquarium at around 3AM, and the story is still developing. You can find their full report below.

Cinco De Mayo weekend should have been one of the most unforgettable weekends in downtown Shreveport’s history. Sadly, yet again, all we’ll remember is the violence that followed. When will it end for Shreveport?
