2023-2024 has been a historic season for the Shreveport Mudbugs. This weekend, they play in front of their home crowd for the final time.
Last week, we wrote about how unique and special the environment is when you visit a hockey game in Shreveport. At that point, the Mudbugs were mere hours away from an all-or-nothing game 5 against the El Paso Rhinos. The SBC community showed up in droves and helped carry the Mudbugs to a huge shut-out victory to move onto the NAHL South Division finals.
The series against their arch-rival Lone Star Brahmas kicked off one enemy territory last weekend. The Mudbugs traveled to the DFW area and arrived on fire, winning the first game of the best-of-five series on opposing ice. I can’t possibly begin to stress how big of a win that was. Lone Star, being the higher seed and winning their initial series convincingly gave them a much longer rest period than the Mudbugs, who were coming directly off a Monday night game 5 win. To come out that hot against the Brahmas was a huge wake-up call to the top-seeded team in the South. Game two was incredibly tough for both squads, but Lonestar ultimately came away with that victory.
Now, with the series tied at 1-1, the Mudbugs can close out the series on home ice. No matter how this series turns out, this weekend’s games will be the final home games of the season. The NAHL Final Four takes place in Blaine, Minnesota.
Tickets this weekend should be hard to come by if you wait until the last second, so I’d highly recommend snagging your tickets in advance at MudbugsHockey.com.
The Shreveport Mudbugs take on the Lonestar Brahmas in the NAHL South Division finals at George’s Pond on Friday, May 10th, and Saturday, May 11th. Both games start at 7:11 PM.
