After weeks of talented singers battling it out, only five remain, and one will become Sweet Caroline’s Star tonight.
Over the past 17 years, I’ve seen countless singing competitions come and go throughout the Ark-La-tex. I have to say that I believe Sweet Caroline’s Star competition is my favorite and the most well-put-together.
On April 17th, Sweet Caroline’s launched the competition and invited anyone and everyone to compete by signing up. Each week since, they have featured ten local performers every Wednesday, with a group of local celebrity judges every week. Out of the ten each week, two moved on to the semi-finals. Last week, I had the privilege of judging alongside Trini Triggs, Tommy Chandler, and Dexter Duran. I must say, it was a pleasure judging the competition, but man it was difficult. After all, all ten performers in the semi-finals won their respective audition weeks.
From my perspective, several elements make Sweet Caroline’s Star competition head and shoulders above the other competitions that came before. First and foremost, the atmosphere inside Sweet Caroline’s makes these nights feel incredibly important. The staff is phenomenal, and the atmosphere feels big-time. Next, the competition is run in conjunction with Shreveport’s Treetop Entertainment. Jacob Zaffater with Treetop Entertainment does the best job of anyone I’ve ever seen in his position. He runs the show from the stage and keeps everything on track while keeping the entire crowd entertained. He is next-level. Lastly, the scoring is incredibly fair. This could be the most important aspect, to me, anyway. I’ve hosted similar competitions, and none of them could get the judging right. However, Sweet Caroline’s does this by inviting multiple judges, and each judge has 6 categories to score the performers 1-10. These categories range from ability to stay on key to preparedness and everything in between.
After weeks and weeks of insanely talented performers, they are ready to crown their inaugural champion.
The final round occurs tonight, May 29th, with doors opening at 7 pm. On the stage, we’ll see Arjay, Crystalyn, Wallace, Sara, and Hollywood battle it out, each performing two songs for the finale. As a spectator, you’re in luck. Wednesday nights at Sweet Caroline’s features no cover for anyone, as well as awesome money-saving drink specials.
You don’t want to miss this. Call your friends now, and make plans to join KSBC this evening as Sweet Caroline’s inaugural Star competition ends with a bang.
