Caddo Parish Schools Closed Monday, April 29th

Sunday evening storms in the Ark-La-Tex have led to school closures throughout the SBC to start the week.

As a parent of two little ones in Caddo Parish, as soon as I saw a weather alert on my phone Sunday evening, I felt the late-night text from Caddo Parish was on the horizon. Luckily, it appears the Ark-La-Tex avoided the nastiest parts of Sunday’s storms, however, there is substantial damage in our area.

Thanks to a little bit of good luck and the Barksdale Bubble, if you’re a believer, the storm seemed to have much more bark than bite. I was eating outside at Hurricane Alley when the tornado alert erupted through my phone. I gotta say, it was quite the experience seeing and hearing hundreds of phones go off simultaneously at the East Bank District.

Still, the weather seemed quite nice then, and no one moved a muscle. Well, that lasted about 10 minutes. Quickly, the day turned to night, and the wind began to pick up. Luckily, at least where we were, the wind was never really an issue. The rain, however, was no joke, and my clothes may never dry. While we watched the rain pour, I jokingly told my daughter she should be happy. She asked why, and I said, “Well, you go to school in Caddo Parish, so there’s a 1% chance you’ll go to school tomorrow.”

It took slightly longer than I expected, but at 10 PM, the decision was made, and hopefully, many parents received the message before setting that 5 AM alarm to wake up our cranky kiddos. According to Caddo Parish, all schools in Caddo will be closed tomorrow, April 29th, due to, “Widespread power outages and impacted roadways”.

Stay safe and enjoy your Monday!
