Ashley Elston, an alumna of LSU Shreveport and a New York Times bestselling author, will share insights into her writing journey and meet with enthusiasts at LSUS this Thursday.
Elston’s first novel for adults, “First Lie Wins,” selected by Reese’s Book Club, has enjoyed several months on the New York Times bestseller list. The novel, a gripping thriller, is currently being adapted for television by Grey’s Anatomy’s Krista Vernoff and actress Octavia Spencer for Hulu.
Speaking on her success, she says, “When you publish a book, you hope it will do well and be well received, but the response to ‘First Lie Wins’ is beyond anything I would have ever thought possible.”
This marks only the second time Elston has visited Shreveport since her novel soared to fame. The event, “An Evening with Ashley Elston,” will occur from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on May 16 at LSUS. She will engage with the audience, answer questions, and sign copies of her books. Attendees are encouraged to bring their copies or purchase one at the event.

This special evening is jointly hosted by the LSU Shreveport Foundation and the LSU Shreveport Alumni Association. Tickets are priced at $20, but members of the Alumni Association, with a membership fee of $50, will receive a complimentary ticket.
“First Lie Wins” tells the story of Evie, a young woman whose seemingly perfect life is anything but. The novel captivates readers with unexpected twists until the very end.
Originally from Monroe, Louisiana, Elston relocated to Shreveport for her husband, Dean, and graduated from LSUS in 1997. Before becoming a writer, she ran a successful wedding photography business.
Her first Young Adult novel, “The Rules for Disappearing,” was published in 2013 and was a finalist for the International Thriller Writers Best Young Adult Novel Award the following year. Also, a super cool note: “The Rules for Disappearing,” includes a nod to LSUS. Since then, she has authored five additional Young Adult novels.
