It’s a sad week for Shreveport as a true local icon has announced he’s leaving.
I’ve written about this man countless times. I have often dubbed him our most famous citizen. The truth is, Pepito Munoz is much, much more than that. He is loved by literally everyone who has ever met him, due to his genuine kindness that never ceases.
I remember the first time I met Pepito at Superior. I went with a few friends, and one of them got us a fantastic table for a packed night. I asked how in the world he did that, and he replied, “I know Pepito.” By the time the evening ended, I was lucky to say I knew Pepito, too, which was the start of our wonderful friendship.
I have always been impressed watching Pepito work the room. That’s just one of the many reasons he is so special and cherished. I remember coming to the opening night when he opened his first location bearing his name. There had to be hundreds seated and even more waiting on a table. On one of the biggest nights of his life, I got to sit back and watch Pepito work his magic. He bounced from table to table to thank all his guests and took time to make a genuine connection with them. The truth is, no matter the time, the year, or the location if Pepito was in the building, he would greet and meet everyone who entered.
He is loved by many of us in Shreveport and has been for a long time. That’s one reason it is exceptionally tough to write this news. Our friend, Pepito Munoz, is taking his talents south as he embarks on another career adventure in Lafayette, Louisiana. I have always loved the town of Lafayette, and I know it won’t take long for the community down there to fall in love with Pepito, much like we all have up here.
For those curious, he told the Shreveport-Bossier Advocate that his new role would be “pretty much the maître d” of the new Superior Grill in Lafayette on Kaliste Saloom Road. You can read their entire article HERE.
Simply put, Shreveport has always been a better place with Pepito Munoz. I think I speak for everyone when I say we will miss him greatly, but I wish him nothing but the best because he deserves it.
