Tonight is a big night for one of our favorite Shreveportant athletes. Seth Lugo will play in his first-ever MLB All-Star game!
Through the years, Shreveport-Bossier has given the world of sports countless memorable and spectacular athletes. The list is quite long, but maybe you’ve heard of a few of the following: Terry Bradshaw, Jacob Hester, Robert Parish, David Toms, Hal Sutton, Trent Taylor, Albert Belle, Sam Burns, and Brandon Wilson.
These days, if you tune into most sports, chances are you will find someone from Shreveport or, at the very least, a Shreveport connection. If you’re like me, you root endlessly for our own to do their thing at the highest level of their respective sports.
Tonight, an MLB veteran from the Ark-La-Tex will play in his first-ever MLB All-Star game. Those who have followed Seth Lugo’s career closely know that this is a true long-time coming, and we couldn’t possibly be more excited for him as he takes the next step in his MLB journey. Seth Lugo graduated from Parkway High School and played college ball at Centenary. From there, he was drafted in the 34th round by the New York Mets in 2011. He missed the 2012 season due to spondylolisthesis, which left him bedridden in Bossier City for three months. He returned to the field in 2013, grinding out life as a minor leaguer for several years. In 2016, he was called up to The Show, where he debuted with the New York Mets and he hasn’t looked back since.
He remained with the Mets until 2022, when he decided to sign a one-year deal with the San Diego Padres. Following the 2023 season, he decided to test the free-agent market once again, and by the looks of it, that was a tremendous choice for our hometown ace.
Seth signed a three-year, $45 Million deal with the Kansas City Royals and has kicked off his tenure for the Royals in true All-Star fashion. He was named to to his first-ever All-Star team after having a stellar first half of the season in which he led the MLB in innings pitched (122), was tied for the MLB lead in wins (11), and led all qualified American League pitchers in ERA (2.21).
Tonight, join me in watching and supporting Seth Lugo as he represents the American League in the MLB All-Star Game. You can watch the game this evening on Fox at 7:00 PM CT!
